Canali System

In 2016, I designed the series of fitness machines for Canali System, developed based on Vincenzo Canali's patent as a response to problems encountered over years of working with athletes. The machines work in sync with the user through postural rotation that stabilizes the abdomen and limits the use of compensatory muscles, benefiting the spine and joints.

The absence of a weight stack is another innovation: resistance comes from body weight and behaves similarly to auxotonic training, increasing throughout the movement. The design translates this technical innovation into clarity of use: materials, geometry, and details guide the user. The system of vertical cushions mimics the spine, increasing comfort and guiding the correct position; the levers and base clearly demonstrate the rotation that "lifts" the action, with an almost playful character that defuses the effort.

Profilo macchina: cinematica leggibile, pensata per seguire la persona.

Awards: ADI Design Index; Honorable Mention, Compasso d'Oro Internazionale; Red Dot Design Award.

In uso: rotazione posturale e stabilità del core.
: Lat machine: architettura del movimento, meno compensazioni.

Suri was created in 2011 for Albatros System as a gesture of subtraction: removing the hydromassage from the technical realm and reintroducing it to a furnishing element, capable of bringing calm and coherence to the bathroom space. The design reduces the sign until the quality of the gesture emerges: a continuous edge, soft connections between surfaces, and a controlled geometry that makes the volume monolithic, yet never aggressive.

Leg Press: struttura compatta e cinematica leggibile.

Strategy

Reduce the visual noise of the whirlpool: push the technology back and let the form define the experience. Build a coherent and recognizable family, capable of crossing different typologies without changing tone or losing its identity.

Design

A continuous edge as a signature, wide radii and connections that guide body and light. Controlled proportions, monolithic yet delicate surfaces, designed to inhabit very different contexts. The satin finish of the PMMA—almost solid surface—elevates touch and perception, remaining within the confines of efficient industrial production.

Results

A comprehensive series, from 170x70 cm to corner, asymmetrical, and freestanding versions, with a stable identity. A premium feel at a reasonable price, and a catalog longevity that has spanned brand transitions, including Tresse, without losing its recognizability.
